OR 2020 – where do we stand?
Kevin Cleary (Children’s National Medical Center, United States)

“OR2020: The Operating Room of the Future” was held in 2004 in the USA. The objective of the workshop was to identify the clinical and technical requirements for integrating advanced computer-assisted and robotic technologies into next generation operating rooms and interventional suites. This was done through a collaborative effort involving physicians, engineers, and scientists.

The six Working Groups represented key areas of research and development:
1. Operational Efficiency and Workflow
2. Systems Integration and Technical Standards
3. Telecollaboration
4. Surgical Robotics
5. Intraoperative Diagnosis and Imaging
6. Surgical Informatics

In this talk the speaker will review the OR2020 report and summarize the discussions of the workshop.
